The Rising Star award, currently sponsored by NAB, is given to the standout young player in the AFL. It was previously known as the Norwich Rising Star and began back in 1993.
In every round of the season, a rising star nomination is given to the standout young player of that round. In order to be eligible, a player must be under 21 years old on January 1 of that year, have played ten or less senior games, and not been suspended during the season. At the end of the season, one of those 22 nominees will win the award.
Looking down the list of previous winners, many have gone onto have very good careers in the game, so it's a good indication of a player's future potential.
