Australian Idol burst onto Australian television in 2003 to much fanfare after the popularity in other countries around the world. The series provided Channel Ten with a ratings bonanza and has been very successful right through. The show has produced many great artists such as Shannon Noll, Guy Sebastian, Anthony Callea and a host of others.
The format of Australian Idol is simple, contestants must choose songs to perform on live television each week in front of Idols 4 judges - Mark Holden, Marcia Hines, Ian Dickson and Kyle Sandilands. The judges offer their feedback and criticism to the contestants, then it is up to the Australian public to vote via phone or sms as to who they want to remain to stay. The lowest is then evicted from the show until the winner is crowned at Sydney's Opera House in late November.

Matthew Corby
The 17 year old has been the favourite to claim the Idol crown the whole series and its not hard to understand why. Corby possesses an amazing voice and has impressed the audience and judges with his fantastic stage presence, and musical knowledge.
Highlights of Corby's season have included brilliant renditions of 'Got To Get You Out Of My Mind', 'The Scientist' and 'Music Of The Night'. He has had several bad moments which included some harsh judge comments, plus bad media attention. But onstage Matt is an incredible entertainer and his popularity and talent is why he will start odds-on favourite to win.
Natalie Gauci
The 24 year old Melbourne performer has had a fairytale ride in Australian Idol this year. Natalie made it by being the final choice in the Wildcard Show and has been inspirational ever since. She has been an entertainer all her life and on stage it shows.
Natalie's performance of The Divinyls hit 'Boys In Town' was one of the greatest performances in Idol history and showed how diverse she was. Other highlights from her this season included 'Umbrella', 'Man In The Mirror' and 'Orange Colored Sky'. While it is going to be a very tough ask to beat Matt Corby, Natalie Cauci is still a very good shot and her popularity will be sure to bring this competition down to the wire.
