The British Grand Prix is the ninth round on the Formula One Championship calendar and held yearly at Silverstone Circuit with half the circuit in Northamptonshire and half in Buckinghamshire. The British Grand Prix is one of the oldest continuously staged F1 world championships and is currently one of the worlds premier motor racing events.
Silverstone has played host to the British Grand Prix most years since the start of the Formula One championship in 1950. Between 1964 to 1986 the race alternated between Silverstone and Brands Hatch, while between 1955 and 1962 Silverstone alternated with Aintree. However, the race has remained at Silverstone since 1987. Prior to 1991 where it was heavily modified, Silverstone was one of the fastest F1 tracks in the world.
The race consists of 60 laps over a total distance of 308.46 kilometers, while the track itself is a distance of 5.141 kilometers. Englishmen Jim Clarke and Frenchman Alain Prost have been victorious in this race more than any other drivers with five wins apiece.
