The Hungarian Grand Prix is the eleventh race on the Formula One Championship calendar and has been held yearly at Hungaroring race circuit since 1986. The Grand Prix is raced over a total of 70 laps over a distance of 306.66 kilometers. Each lap is 4.38 kilometers in distance.
A Hungarian Grand Prix was first held in 1936 at a track in Népliget, but due to issues with politics and ensuing war, this brought an end to Grand Prix motor racing in Hungry for 50 years. In 1986 Bernie Ecclestone mad the major coup of bringing back the Hungarian Grand Prix to the Formula One Championship which was the first race to take place behind the Iron Curtain.
Hungaroring is a very difficult track to win at. Due to the nature of the track being narrow, twisty and often dusty from under-use, the Hungarian Grand Prix is associated with processional races, with sometimes many cars following one another, unable to pass. The secret to a winning performance at Hungaroring, as well as qualifying well, is pit strategy.
