V8 supercar racing is Australia’s domestic championship and is highly popular all around the country. Events are held all over Australia where some race meetings attract over 250,000 spectators, aswell as events in New Zealand and Bahrain.

The 2007 series will be held over 14 race weekends throughout the year and race formats will range from sprint races to endurance type races. The three marquee races on the calendar are the Bathurst 1000, Clipsal 500 and Sandown 500. Events like the Shanghai Round and Bahrain Round are increasingly becoming popular also.

The V8 Supercars involved in the championship are based on either the Ford Falcon or Holden Commodore and have been highly modified to suit the motor sport application. The cars have also been regulated in all aspects of performance in an attempt to ensure all drivers are kept on an even playing field which creates a closer and more exciting type of race. At some events, over 30 cars in a field have been split by a couple of seconds during qualifying.
