Rugby League Betting Markets

Match Winner

The easiest bet type of all when it comes to league. Simply select who you think will win the game, including the draw, and get paid out if your bets a winner. In the NRL, be sure to stick with teams with good form, as form is consistent. Also, stick to teams with either very strong defences or very strong attacks. Teams that excel in both will win more often than not. That may be bleating the obvious, but it’s a stat that rings true.

Line Betting

This bet type simply involves handicapping both sides in a particular match, effectively evening up the contest, and to win the bet your selection must cover its line margin for you to be a winner. It’s a very popular bet type as the odds are always around $1.90 for each match. If you fancy an outsider to win but are not 100% confident on the selection, then you can take them with a point’s line for that extra bit of confidence. Same goes for a team you think will win by plenty but are too short to back, you can take them on the line for more value.

Under/Over 12.5

Another bet type involving margins. This one does as it says; you need to pick a team to win either by over 12.5 points or under. This type of bet is handy when you are predicting a close game and fancy a particular team, or if you fancy a particular team to win in a whitewash. The odds are always very generous and always over even money which is why it is so popular amongst league punters.

Half Time / Full Time Betting

Again, the title says it all. Here you bet on which team will be leading at half time and then who will be leading at full time. The odds are usually quite generous and there is plenty of money to be made if you analyse past results and can spot trends. Look for teams who start well or badly, or finish well or badly. Plenty of punters have found their niche in this market.

The domestic competition in Australia is the NRL which runs from March til September. Along with this are the hugely popular State Of Origin series between Queensland and New South Wales which attract massive crowd and television interest, plus also the annual City v Country Origin match. There is also the World Club Challenge which pits the champions of the NRL against the champions of the European Super League, which is very popular.

International rugby is also very popular. The Australian national team is often referred to as The Kangaroos and are one of the best teams in the world. They recently participated in the Final of the Rugby League World Cup losing as short favourites.
